How to Get Moving - Motivation!

Some days working out during the day or in the evening are just not an option. This is especially true if you’re a working parent, busy executive, or have quite the social calendar. Here are some helpful tips for waking up early to workout that have actually worked for me over the years. Don’t think about it, just do it- yes, Nike was on to something. You’ll thank me and above all, yourself later!

  1. The nights before a morning workout, don’t go to bed past 10:30pm. This sounds easy, but it’s really about starting to wind down for bed an hour before and committing to this routine. Over time, it will become a habit.

  2. Keep the alarm or phone (which you should do regardless) away from your bed-that way you’re already done with that initial physical act of getting your body out of be-the hardest part!

  3. Splash cold water on your face-makes you feel awake and after that you’re off!

  4. Prepare your playlist the day before.

  5. Lay out your workout clothes the night before-tip: The color red is known to increase excitement, energy levels, and circulation- I have several red workout clothes. Trick yourself into wanting to workout. It works!

  6. Have a cup of coffee, tea, or warm lemon water with cayenne pepper upon waking. Always start with drinking regular water when you wake up. It should be the first thing that touches your lips in the morning.

  7. Have an accountability partner to meet or sign up for a class.

  8. Think about how you’ll feel. “I wish I didn’t workout.”- Said no one, ever. Now you have the entire day and night to do whatever you want!
